Grace Hotels takes great care to develop and operate our hotels in a responsible, sustainable manner. This includes an environmental awareness policy in each hotel and a culture of empathy and respect for the communities among whom we work.
Our ‘Give with Grace’ programme enables our guests to join us in our charitable deeds. Under this initiative, for every night a room in a Grace hotel is occupied, the Grace Foundation pledges $1 (or its equivalent in the appropriate local currency) to SOS Children’s Villages, a global organisation which provides services and much needed support to children who have lost or who are at risk of losing parental care. It is guided by the spirit of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and adheres to the principle that every child grows best in a family environment, with loving parents or care-givers, living together with their siblings, in a place they can call home.
Under the scheme we invite our guests to match the Grace Foundation’s donation by also contributing $1 for each night that they stay at a Grace hotel. Of course any match-funding by guests is entirely optional. We raise further funds for the foundation by making a donation from the sale of certain special dishes and beverages served in our restaurants and bars. In addition, ‘Give with Grace’ bracelets, featuring the gold plated and sterling silver conjoined ‘G’ emblem and echoing the infinity symbol, are available to buy at all our hotels. The bracelets come in a variety of colours and are handmade exclusively for Grace Hotels. All sales proceeds go towards the Give with Grace programme.
The Grace Foundation actively supports numerous other worthy causes. Recent donations by the Foundation include €600,000 to ELEPAP, a rehabilitation centre which supports the development of children with physical disabilities and developmental difficulties at its six branches across Greece. In March 2015, the Foundation announced a pledge of €1.2 million to Hatzikyriakio Childcare Institution, one of the oldest childcare centres in Greece, and public health institute Prolepsis, which provides vital food aid in Greece.
We also support charities (including Starlight, MacMillan Cancer Support, The National Autistic Society and the NSPCC) through the donation of free nights and dinners as prizes at auctions and events.
